About Us

Who are we? Two dapper L.A. gals who love to eat cake, among other things. Our names? Mari and Sara'. We met and immediately bonded while in graduate school at U.C.L.A. As we discovered a mutual interest and passion for art, poetry, music, fashion, photography, architecture and design- herstory was made and we collaborated! Our middle names are Sofia and Kali, hence the inspiration for the name of our line of handmade designer jewelry and other various goodies: SoKalDesigns. This blog is a place for us to showcase what we find fascinating in the world of art and design and the random flotsam and jetsam of the aesthetically driven part of our minds, as well as a way to update our fans about our upcoming lines of jewelry. We hope you enjoy sharing the vast space of the world of design/art/media with us...and far beyond :)

So Help Me, Platforms Are Back!!!

Presenting: illustrious, fantabulous, gut-bustingly funky-fresh platform shoes from one of my all time favorite designers, Jeffrey Campbell!!!  These shoes all come from his 'Lita' line except for the leopard pair of dazzlers who go by the name 'Foxy'.  I am currently trying to work up the gumption to actually purchase a pair and brave the campus of UCLA in high style...but in actuality, I will probably reserve them for late-night foolery.  The 'Lita's' come in dozens of different colors at www.solestruck.com so go check 'em out for that kid-in-a-candy-store feeling.

Take a Dip into the Dye

I've always been a fan of wildly crazy hair colors, like hot hot pink hair and bright blue, etc. The bummer for me is that the amount of bleaching my hair would need to go all out like that would ultimately leave me bald. Then this whole thing about dip-dye hair started and who knows? Maybe it's too fashionable right now to do much with it, but it sure looks purty and fun and easy to do. The best part? When you're done with it, just chop off the bottom few inches of hair, like you're gettin' a trim. No harm done. Here's some photos :
